Shubman Gill shared a 49-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal before being dismissed for 34 runs off 46 balls, continuing his poor form in Test cricket. James Anderson has picked up his fifth Test wicket. Jaiswal, a left-handed batter, scored 90 runs off 131 balls in another partnership with Shreyas Iyer.

Jaiswal contributed 63 off 72 balls, while Iyer added 27 off 59. After Tom Hartley dismissed Iyer, Jaiswal and Axar Patel combined for another 50-run stand (27 off 51).

Shoaib Bashir struck again in the 86th over, removing Axar Patel (27) for his second wicket of the day. Among the six Indian batters bowled out today between 14 and 35 runs was Srikar Bharat, who was also the wicketkeeper. After scoring 17 runs off of 23 balls in the 91st over, Bharat was bowled out. Coming in at eight minutes before the start, Ashwin maintained his unbeaten record on five out of ten attempts.
