About the Indian Test Cricket Team’s first captain
Nayudu is best known for leading the Indian cricket team in its first Test match, which was played against England at Lord’s in 1932. This match was supposed to be played under the captain of the Maharaja of Patiala, but due to health issues, he had to withdraw just two weeks before the match began, and Nayudu was named captain. In this match, despite injuring his hand while fielding in the first innings, Nayudu managed to score the highest total of 40 runs in the innings.
Nayudu also appeared in all 26 First Class Cricket matches during this tour, scoring 1,618 runs with a batting average of 40.45. Throughout the tour, he scored 1,842 runs and took 65 wickets.
